TCV School Ladakh launched TPD 2015

On 1st April 2015, Tibetan SOS Children's Village School, Ladakh, held a function that formally launched the school-based teacher professional development (TPD) programs. The function was attended by the Director Mr. Kalsang Phuntsok and Principal Mr. Lhundup Namgyal of the school, as well as Curriculum & Professional Development Officer Mr. Kalsang Wangdu from the TCV Head Office.

TCV School Ladakh is one of the largest TCV schools with one main school and 6 branches. The school has more than 2000 children under its care with close to 150 teachers. For 2015 academic year, the school's TPD programs include a number of teachers' book clubs and lesson study teams. Besides, every teacher is working on an annual professional growth plan (PGP). There were several lesson study groups in core academic subjects like English language and Math. Books TCV Ladakh teachers are reading and discussing includes:

· Positive discipline in the classroom by Jane Nelsen

· Totto Chan by Tetsuko Kuroyanagi and Chichiro Iwasaki

· Teaching Science by Tony Liversidge et al

· Best practices of teaching social studies by Randi Stone

· Dus-rabs kyi rnga-sgra by Khenpo Tsultrim Lodro, etc.

 

Teachers will meet in their collaborative groups twice a week and work on their research lessons or read and discuss professional literature. At the end of the academic year, they will also engage in a reflective writing on their individual PGP.
