Fifth Batch of Early Grade Reading Workshop for Primary Teachers 21st December to 30th December 2014
BANGALORE: The first cluster level EGR Workshop was conducted from 21 – 30 December 2014 at the Dalai Lama Institute of Higher Education, Bangalore, in two batches for 53 primary teachers of the Tibetan schools in South India.
The workshop was concluded on 30 December. At the closing ceremony, Dr. B. Tsering, the chief guest, awarded the participants with certificates and traditional scarves.
The chief guest addressed the participants on issues relating to children's education and our responsibilities as a Tibetan. The resource person, Dr. Latika Gupta from Delhi University also addressed the participants. The participants also expressed that this workshop has helped them a lot in clearing their doubts in dealings with early graders.
Speaking to tibet.net, Mr. Tsering Dhondup, Education Officer and the coordinator of the workshop said, "The work shop was successful in identifying the challenges and providing the necessary resources and skills to overcome it. The teachers are now better equipped with new ideas and skills to teach the early graders."
The Department of Education is planning a series of cluster level workshop on Early Grade Reading in 2015 to cover all the primary teachers of Tibetan Schools in an effort to improve the professional growth of teachers particularly of young learners (Class I – V). So far DoE has provided three such workshops for 70 primary school teachers.
These workshops were funded by USAID through Tibet Fund.
