Sixth Tibetan General Conference on Education Underway

General-Conference-Education-01January 8, 2014 9:36 am, DHARAMSHALA: The sixth Tibetan General Conference on Education is currently underway at the Lower TCV school in Dharamshala. Over 236 participants comprising of principals, directors, teachers and counselors from 76 Tibetan schools in Nepal and India, are currently attending the 3-day conference.
The general conference on education is the largest gathering of teachers and school administrators on education policy of the Tibetan exile community and is held once every five years.The agenda for this year's conference include professional development of teachers, emphasis on primary education particularly science and mathematics, and the effective implementation of the basic education policy, introduced in 2004.


Innovative Professional Development Program for Teachers Underway

innovative-professional-development-program-01August 19, 2013 2:24 pm, DHARAMSHALA: The Department of Education (DOE) of the Central Tibetan Administration initiated an innovative teacher professional development program at Tibetan Children's Village School, Suja on August 16. The program was entitled 'teacher-led collaborative learning program'. The opening session of the new program was attended by Mr. Karma Sherab Tharchin, the principal of TCV School, Suja, and DoE Education Officers Mr. Gyaltsen and Mr. Kalsang Wangdu. Around 25 teachers of the school volunteered to take part in this program.


DOE to Start National Geographic Explorer Programme in Tibetan Schools

national-geographic-explorer-programme-tibetan-schools-01June 14, 2013 10:00 am The Department of Education, in collaboration with National Geographic Explorer (NGX) Programme, USA will be starting a year-round school-based Science, Environmental Science and English Learning Programme for class VI to X students from July 2013 under its USAID Projects. It is a holistic and integrated programme with a broader mission to increase global understanding and promote conservation of our planet through exploration research and education.

DHARAMSHALA: The first Education Advisory Committee Meeting of Tibetan schools is being organised by Department of Education (DoE) of the Central Tibetan Administration in Dharamsala from 5-6 June. The meeting is being conducted as part of the 14th Kashag's prioritisation of education and academic excellence.


Fifth Batch of Early Grade Reading Workshop for PRTs Underway

pic1The Department of Education, CTA has been organizing "Early Grade Reading Workshops" since 2014 in effort to improve especially early aged children's academic learning and intellectual development. This endeavor has been done in accordance with the recommendation of Education Advisory Committee meeting held in June, 2013.



Early Grade Reading Workshop Underway at Bangalore

egr pic1BANGALORE: The first cluster level workshop is being conducted at the Dalai Lama Institute of Higher Education, Bangalore, in two batches for 60 primary teachers of the Tibetan Schools in South India. The first Batch of 28 teachers are undergoing 5-day workshop from 21 to 25 December. The second batch of 30 teachers will attend the workshop from 26-30 December.

Participants include teachers from schools under CTSA, STSS and TCV. The resource person for the workshop is Dr. Latika Gupta from Delhi University. Unlike previous centralised workshops, this workshop was planned by the Department of Education to cover all the primary school teachers under the Early Grade Reading project.
